General Description
The CDPMx (configurable digital panel meter) provides a full 4-digit LED meter that is unlike other low cost meters. Measurement scaling is separate from display scaling providing a very versatile meter that can show the measurement in any units.
- CDPMV - w/RS232 or RS485 interface, uses Versalent (ASCII) Protocol
- CDPMB - w/ RS232 or RS485 interface, uses MODBUS RTU/ASCII Protocol
The programmable 8-decimal-digit scaling factor eliminates the need for analog pot adjustments, and with the programmable display offset, this meter can convert ANY input range to ANY display range. CDPM has a fixed voltage input range (available ranges below) . Scaling/offset is then applied to the display only. View CDPM Characteristics For instance, an input of 0 to 10V (or any portion of that range), can be displayed as -2500 to +8500 allowing it to show actual gallons in a tank, or temperature in oC/K/F -- not just volts like other meters. No more manual conversions of the meter voltage required! And .. that scaling can be dynamically changed.
The Configurator application requires just a few simple entries to generate and download the scaling/offset factors needed. After configuration CDPM can operate stand-alone, or a distant RS232/RS485 host can dynamically change the scaling from lbs to kg, inches to feet etc. or return the displayed digital value for remote monitoring. Unit addressing allows for up to 248 MODBUS or Versalent Protocol units to coexist on an RS485 network.
For USB operation, an adapter like the Cerrxian USB-485 can connect the CDPM and supply the needed 5V operating power.

Advantages Over Conventional Panel Meters
- VERSATILE -- Conventional meters offer pot-adjustment for scaling with no adjustable offset. CDPM provides programmable (no pot) digital scaling AND display offset resulting in a meter that can accept ANY input range and produce ANY display output from -9999 to +9999.
- EXTENDED RANGES -- Excellent offset specs (factory digital calibration) allow for 50mv and 100mv ranges while typical meters offer 200mv minimum
- DYNAMICALLY REPROGRAMMABLE -- Once adjusted, conventional meters are fixed and display a single scale. CDPM is dynamically reprogrammable so scaling can be changed from lbs to grams, and the display is dimmable and flash-able.
- REMOTELY ACCESS METER READINGS -- Conventional meters do not transmit their measurements. CDPM can be remotely querried so that host systems can monitor and react to industrial/lab processes, generating alarms or logging values. The RS232/485 link allow a host to be thousands of feet distant.
- SMALL SIZE -- CDPM is 1.9" X 1.1" X 0.9" making it small enough to replace existing meters, or fit inside a product enclosure. Panel cut-out 1.82" X 1.04" .
- Online Simulator lets you test-drive.

Detailed Description
Configuration:
The wide-ranging flexibility of CDPM uses the Versalent Configurator Windows application to generate the scaling/offset factors needed. User input is reduced to entering a few simple values: the signal input range and the desired meter readings for this range. The configurator computes and downloads the factors to make your display do it!.
Advanced Features
Dynamic Meter Changes:
Multiple configurations can be generated by the Configurator and stored by a host which can then alter the CDPM scaling dynamically. For instance CDPMx can change from showing pounds to kilograms, and short configuration messages make the meter change in milliseconds.
Display Effects:
The CDPM display can be dimmed with 8 brightness levels and/or flashed. On command it can also show cryptic text messages using the limited characters which a 7-segment display can show .. like Err9 . See the character list in the manual.

CDPM is factory-configured to accept a maximum signal input range. It should be purchased with the closest input range that encompasses the expected signal range for best measurement resolution. For a signal of 0-8V, a 0-10V meter provides better resolution than a 0-20V meter. |
